Aquabear Legion loves Ohio music, but sometimes we bend the rules on hosting shows when a band from another state is as mindblowingly awesome as Mississippi’s Water Liars. On Tuesday, March 4th, Aquabear teams up with Blackout Booking and Peacock Productions to welcome Water Liars to The Union along with Athens staples Supernobody, Adam Remnant, and Dead Winds of Summer. Water Liars are fresh off the release of their self-titled third LP on Fat Possum’s Big Legal Mess label. Joining Water Liars that night will be local Athens acts Supernobody, Adam Remnant, and Dead Winds of Summer. Tickets are $8 in advance and available at Haffa’s Records in Athens, Ohio and are $10 at the door. Music will begin around 9:00pm. Here’s the event on Facebook. Help us spread the word and come out to watch a fantastic night of live music in Athens, Ohio.
Highlights from Friday night of the 2013 Nelsonville Music Festival are here and ready for the listening! This episode features Catherine MacLellan, Leah Nairn, Michael Hurley, JD Hutchison, The Hiders, Anais Mitchell & Jefferson Hamer, Nick Tolford & Company, William Tyler, Wooden Indian Burial Ground, Adam Remnant, Endless Boogie, Screaming Females, and Reigning Sound. That’s a metric butt load of music for the low, low price of absolutely nothing. Enjoy!
Lots of great shows happening here in Athens around the holidays, we’ll be talking about some of them in the next week here on Aquabear. Sunday, December 16 features four of the finest songwriters around all on one stage at Donkey Coffee: Matthew Milia (from Michigan’s Frontier Ruckus) and Michael Nau (from Maryland’s fantastic Cotton Jones, who will be playing this year’s Nelsonville Music Festival) will join Athens’ own Adam Remnant (Southeast Engine) and Athens’ own/Oregon’s current own Justin Gordon (Hoover Administration). Don’t miss this one folks. $7 at the door, show starts at 8:00pm.
Misra Records is very excited to announce the first in a series of living room tours. Jerry DeCicca (The Black Swans) & Adam Remnant (Southeast Engine) will be playing a string of intimate and all-acoustic house shows throughout July. It will be a unique tour of two critically acclaimed modern songwriters in an unparalleled environment.
These performances will bring back the intimacy large venues lack, holding only 40-50 guests, no sound systems or amps – simply two artists and their instruments. It is an ideal environment to showcase DeCicca & Remnant’s talent and power in a truly special way.
The living room tour follows the spring Misra release of The Black Swans’ Don’t Blame the Stars and Southeast Engine’s Canary. Both albums have seen wide critical acclaim from outlets such as Pitchfork, Paste, NPR, Magnet, KEXP, No Depression, and many more.
Tickets are limited – on sale at misrarecords.com/tours
Living room location announced upon ticket purchase
Shows start at 8 pm
The 5th annual Aquabear County Fair is coming up this weekend (March 3-6) and we think this year just might be the best yet. The Aquabear is serving up four days of Ohio music with 16 bands.
We finish the 5th annual Aquabear County Fair off with a FREE afternoon potluck at the always awesome ARTS/West (132 W. State Street in Athens) on SUNDAY, MARCH 6 at 2:00pm. Its a great lineup too featuring Super Desserts (columbus), Brian Harnetty (columbus), and Athens’ own Adam Remnant. Plus it’s free (though donations help pay for bands, space, and sound) and it’s a potluck so bring some food to share and enjoy some amazing music. Trust us, you will have a great time. We’re bringing kelbasa and bread from Crumbs and a giant chocolate bunny.
Super Desserts are a fantastic band from Columbus, Ohio. Come see them this afternoon and you will love them as much as we do.
Brian Harnetty is a musician and artist from ohio, and his work involves overlooked elements of sound. many of his pieces transform found material––including field recordings, transcriptions, and historic recordings––into personal sound worlds. He’s recorded and worked with Will Oldham, and graced stages from Europe to the Southern Theater.
Adam Remnant has been one of Athens’ most respected songwriters for a decade and appears at ARTS/West for a special solo show. Adam’s band Southeast Engine is releasing its new album Canary on MISRA Records in a few weeks and embarking on another tour.
This year mark’s the 5th annual Aquabear County Fair so we decided to make it bigger than ever before. We’re pretty excited for this one… many more details to come.
This year we present 16 bands total in Athens, Ohio over 4 days on March 3-6. 15 Ohio bands and even 1 from Japan.
