The Moose Is Loose: Episode Three

The Moose Is Loose presents its historic second episode, and its historic because we did another one! This episode is part one of an All-Aquabear County Fair preview (look for episode 3 next week!) and you can hear Brian talk about surgery, his cat, living on an alley, and of course play a lot of sweet music. The focus of part one is on Friday, March 9th so you will hear from all the bands playing the first day of the 6th annual Aquabear County Fair. From the early show at Donkey you will hear Chris Biester (represented by an Appalachian Death Ride song), Sovroncourt, and Moon High. Brian then moves on to Casa Cantina where you will hear songs from the bands playing there: The D-Rays, Hex Net, Sundown, and Weird Science.

Athens’ own Donkey Coffee & Espresso will be fueling this year’s Aquabear Pancake Breakfast by providing all the coffee! That’s right along with all-you-can-eat pancakes you also get all-you-can-drink coffee courtesy of Donkey! Besides making a really good cup of coffee Donkey also hosts live music, films, art shows, and many other events. We are hosting part of this year’s 6th annual Aquabear County Fair at Donkey with an early show on Friday, March 9th. You can find out much more on their website!

King Family Farm is located just outside of Athens in Albany, Ohio and makes some of the finest pork and chicken products I have ever had. You can find their items used in restaurants all over the state and can purchase them yourself at the Athens Farmers Market. Aquabear uses King Family Farm bacon at our annual Pancake Breakfast and we use their eggs in our pancake mix too. “ King Family Farm pork products are all made from hogs naturally raised on our farm in Albany, Ohio.  We use no growth hormones or antibiotics in our feeds.  We process our own feed using locally grown grains.  No animal or industrial by-products. ” Sounds good to us.

The Aquabear is very excited to top all the pancakes this Sunday with some Sticky Pete’s Maple Syrup from right here in Athens County! Sticky Pete’s can be found everywhere from Casa Nueva to the Easton Farmers Market in Columbus and it is fantastic. We could not ask for anything better to top our pancakes with. Now, Sticky Pete’s doesn’t have a website but our Athens ex-pat friend Susan Hilvert was involved with a project called TerraStories that traveled around meeting female farmers and food producers and ran across Laura Berry and Sticky Pete’s on the cross-region journey. TerraStories says this of Laura and Sticky Pete’s “She only sells her stuff locally, but her clout is nation-wide: Sticky Pete’s has been repeatedly recognized by tastemakers as some of the best syrup on the market.”

Fluff Bakery & Catering is a relatively new addition to Court Street in Athens, Ohio but it is already gaining quite the reputation for being very, very, very, very awesome. Was that enough? They make tons of amazing treats (including homemade snickers bars, whoopie pies, and various sweets) and serve a solid sandwich too all while working with alot of local producers. Fluff has also been making Blockhead Donuts, which will be available for an upgrade at this year’s Pancake Breakfast! DONUTS! Plus, they are nice enough to still hang out with us shifty rock and roll types even though you have to get up real early to make good food.

Shagbark Seed & Mill make spelt flour that make our pancakes! And they make a lot of other fantastic things too like tortilla chips, black beans, and more. You can find their products at Casa Nueva and in Avalanche Pizza, and of course weekly at the Athens Farmers Market.

Snowville Creamery is a magical thing. The provide the milk for our pancake mix, the half and half for the coffee, and their heavy whipping cream is made into homemade butter and whipped cream by Sherri. Also, Snowville always sends along extra milk for drinkin’ and this year we are really excited to have their new chocolate milk too. Snowville makes some amazing stuff and its available all around Ohio and even as far as Washington DC. “Snowville Creamery is a small scale fluid milk processing plant located on a pasture based dairy farm in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Meigs County. Aquabear's annual Pancake Breakfast is Sunday, January 29th from 1pm-4pm at ARTS/West in Athens

It’s the beginning of a new year and that means… It’s Aquabear Legion Pancake Breakfast time! This year we host the best breakfast of the year at ARTS/West on Sunday, January 29th from 1pm-4pm. Last year’s event was so much fun and the food was great so we decided once again to go ALL LOCAL with the food, local food being used to support local music makes sense to us! This year will mark our SIXTH Pancake Breakfast.

$5 will get you:
• all-you-can-eat pancakes (made with Shagbark Mill spelt flour and Snowville milk)
• Donkey Coffee
• Snowville Chocolate Milk (while it lasts)
• and special treats throughout the afternoon
• Sticky Pete’s Maple Syrup and homemade butter and whipped cream from Snowville products (while it lasts)

and for a bonus $1 upgrade donation (no limit, while supplies last) you can choose:
• a Blockhead Donut (from Fluff Bakery) OR
• a piece of delicious King Family Farms bacon
