Aquabear is extremely honored to welcome Cleveland punk-rockers This Moment in Black History to the Union tonight to close out the Fourth Annual Aquabear County Fair. Since forming in 2001, the band have toured the nation extensively and become a staple of Athens own Blackoutfest. The group will likely be premiering some songs from Public Square, their new release on the Chicago underground label Smog Veil Records. If you’re a fan of rock n’ roll that is noisy and abrasive in all the right ways, there’s no better place to be than the Union tonight.
Here’s some video of This Moment in Black History at Donewaiting’s 5th anniversary back in 2008.
COUNTY FAIR PREVIEW: Dragline Bros
Dragline Bros. (formerly The Redtails for those that can go back that far) are one of the most kickass rock and roll bands I have ever seen. Aquabear is glad to welcome them back for another County Fair TONIGHT at Casa Cantina they will be closing out the night.
This band contains some of Athens’ finest musicians, as a bassist I would give my left leg to play like Andrew Weiland and I am sure most guitarists would feel that way about Seth Riddlebarger’s solos, and drummers for Chris McKee’s everything. And they will be joined tonight by a few extra members, though we know it’s not Tim Peacock cause he went to Pittsburgh for the weekend.
Check out this great video of the Dragline Bros. playing last year’s Blackoutfest at The Union courtesy of our good friend Milo:
COUNTY FAIR PREVIEW: Sun God
Cleveland’s Sun God have in the past described themselves as “arena punk… in a good way” and I completely agree. These guys contain members of Insurrect and countless other Cleveland bands of years past and they will definitely test your hearing threshold. They joined us at the 2nd annual Aquabear County Fair a few years back and still remain one of the loudest things to ever happen at ARTS/West.
Plus they have a brand new split 12″ with This Moment In Black History that comes out on March 5 and will most certainly be available at the show. Don’t miss these guys, they don’t come down to Athens nearly enough. Come see Sun God and a whole host of others at the final night of the 2010 Aquabear County Fair at The Union on Saturday, March 6th at 8pm. It’s all about those riffs, dude.
Check out Sun God (with Kevin filling in on bass instead of guitar, they are back to a four piece now though) playing at the 2009 Compound Fest in Cleveland.
COUNTY FAIR PREVIEW: Seascapes
Aquabear is pretty pumped to have Seascapes play their first County Fair… they will close out the first night TONIGHT at The Bruce Manor (show starts at 7pm) joining Thx. Tiger, In Silent Movies, and Dead Winds of Summer. Made up of members of Spooktober, Paper Machetes, Russenorsk, Manor Animals, The Donnybrooks, and more Seascapes play damn good poppy rock and roll.

Dead Winds of Summer is the solo project from Andrew Lampela (Weedghost, Kid Panda Hands, Goodbye Goats, SacLunch, Wizzard Beasts, and 9 million more). Dead Winds is equal parts improv, loops, and atmosphere and just like Andrew’s other projects in those veins this one hits the mark right on.
This is the perfect way to start off the Aquabear County Fair so make sure to come out to The Bruce Manor TONIGHT at 7pm, Andrew will start around 7:45, followed by Thx. Tiger, In Silent Movies, and Seascapes.
Unfortunately there are no Dead Winds of Summer videos to be found, but here’s part fo Weedghost’s set from last year’s Nelsonville Music Festival (right before Mudhoney!)

Aquabear gave She Bears some love (it’s a bear thing) a while back when they put out their last record. This interview is funnier than anything that I could write right now, so we will just link to that.
She Bears are from Athens, Ohio though I hear talk they will be leaving for the bright lights of Columbus, Ohio after spending the Summer touring around. Come on out to Aquabear County Fair night two a free show at Casa Cantina on Friday, March 5th to see She Bears join Dragline Bros, Manor Animals, and Chris Biester.
And take a look at the lady bears making an appearence on ACRN’s Guestlist in the video below:
COUNTY FAIR PREVIEW: In Silent Movies
In Silent Movies are a new-ish Athens band that has already sharpened a pretty distinct sound and we are glad to welcome them aboard the first ever Aquabear County Fair performance on Thursday, March 4th at The Bruce Manor.
Each time I see these guys, I am more and more impressed. Come see them at their (well 2 out of 3) home base in the basement at the Manor. And make sure to keep a look out for their new EP They Had Faces Then which is slated to come out in March (which is today! i hope it is at the show on Thursday).
I have been looking around like crazy but cannot find a video, so come on out and see them in the flesh and film it. These boys play some damn good rock and roll and I think one of them is from Texas.

Aquabear is pretty excited about Cleveland, Ohio’s Megachurch making its first visit down to Athens… These guys are damn good, they even opened up for Mission of Burma at last year’s Studio-Rama. A drummer and two basses, these guys have spent a good deal of time over the years in many other projects both past and current including Machine Go Boom, The Buried Wires, Washout Corporation, and a lot more. These guys play sweet math rock driven by pounding drums and twice the bass.
Megachurch is playing the Aquabear County Fair at The Union on Saturday, March 6th.
Check out this video of them playing at last year’s Compund Fest in Cleveland!

Manor Animals are an Athens supergroup of sorts, made up of the five residents of The Bruce Manor house on West Union Street in Athens. Tim Race (Russenorsk), Zach Inscho (Seascapes, Russenorsk), Alex Eiler (She Bears), Josh Landis (In Silent Movies), and Mike Jones (also of In Silent Movies) make up a group that despite their involvement in many other projects definitely has it own sound. These songs rock and their is a depth to their live shows that comes from being in a band with everyone you live in a house with. Good stuff. They just finished an EP that I am hoping to get a hold of soon.
Manor Animals will be playing the Aquabear County Fair at Casa Cantina on Friday, March 5th and that is a FREE SHOW, so you have no excuse.

COUNTY FAIR PREVIEW: Thx. Tiger
FULL DISCLOSURE: I am playing with this project at the Aquabear County Fair, and played with Scott in Casual Future for years.
Thx. Tiger is the current outlet for Scott Spice’s recordings, Scott (and myself and others) played for years in Athens band Casual Future. We stopped playing last June because most everyone was moving but Scott continued to write and eventually recorded a album’s worth of songs, playing everything himself (I think). And the record is awesome. Never would I have thought my next live project after Casual Future would be in a band with Scott Spice again, but I am thrilled to play some drums (of all things) and help a few more people hear these songs. You can listen to those Thx. Tiger songs on the Myspace page. It will be very nice to play for folks
Thx. Tiger will be playing the Aquabear County Fair on Thursday, March 4th at The (bruce) Manor. We will play early so seriously get there at 7pm.
Casual Future was not a well-filmed band, so all I can link you to in a visual sense is a performance from last year’s County Fair were we played our newest song “Citizen Watch”, I know some of those guys hate this version but it has its moments… there’s more videos somewhere.
